Scott Walker's goofy wall idea

Donnie Trump is said to be the goofiest presidential pretender in the GOP stable – but, after all, he is a professional, made-for-TV stuntman, so his P.T. Barnum political shtick is no surprise.

Donnie Trump is said to be the goofiest presidential pretender in the GOP stable – but, after all, he is a professional, made-for-TV stuntman, so his P.T. Barnum political shtick is no surprise.

But the real surprise is that the flair-haired Donald is getting a serious challenge for Goofiest of Them All from an amateur practitioner of slapstick: Scott Walker. Only a few weeks ago, the political cognoscenti were hailing the sleepy-eyed Wisconsin governor as one of the “serious” candidates in the Republican herd. But he has since done so many splashy flip-flops on his policies that Sea World is reportedly trying to hire him to do backflips with Shamu.

For example, he had previously been a quasi-sane Republican on the issue of citizenship for some undocumented immigrants. But when Trump surged to front-runner status as a flaming, maniacal immigrant basher, suddenly Scottie began foaming at the mouth like a mad-dog, trying to out-bash Donnie. Yes, he yapped, Trump is right that we need to build a big ‘ol, hermetically sealed wall on the Mexican border – BUT, he franticly exclaimed, we also need to build a wall across our northern order with Canada!

Canada? Even Republicans hooted at such overwrought goofiness. As Rand Paul politely put it: “That’s a pretty dumb idea.”

So dumb that Gov. Goofy collapsed into an addlepated heap of denial. “I didn’t say that at all,” he barked a couple of days later. “I’ve never talked about a wall to the north.”

Only… he had. On “Meet the Press,” the national TV show! Walker was asked directly, “Do you want to build a wall north of here, too?” Rather than laugh it off, Walker declared with a straight face: “That is a legitimate issue for us to look at.”

A 4,000 mile wall to protect us from friendly Canadians? Or maybe he wants to keep us Americans from escaping to Canada if he becomes president. Walker is serious all right – seriously goofy.
